Any heritage breeds, free-range or specialty services are listed next to the farm.
Why buy local? Freshness, care, variety and the ability to deal directly with the person raising your livestock or poultry.
This list isn't necessarily meant to be a complete listing, but more of a listing of consumer-oriented farms that focus on quality.

||Wagon Wheel Ranch
661 West Watersville Rd.
Mount Airy, MD 21771
|We raise our pigs in the woods, Berkshires, and do provide our customers with BBQ pigs. If people go to butcher shops they are buying a frozen pig. The large pig farms kill the pigs that have problems like losing an eye or are growing too slow, when they reach 90 to 110 pounds they are killed and frozen.
We do not sell frozen pigs, we take them to the butcher on Tuesdays and they are kept at 38 degrees until they are picked up. We allow our customers to come pick out a live pig if they would like.
||Open Book Farm
10430 Rum Springs Rd
Myersville, MD 21773
|We manage our livestock with three primary goals in mind: happy animals, healthy land, and healthful food. Continual rotation onto fresh, green pasture helps us work toward all three. We never use any antibiotics, growth hormones, or parasiticides (a.k.a. “de-wormers”). Sunlight and decomposition (rest) take care of parasites before they cause problems. Please see our website for much more information.
